I. Regarding the asynchronous side of the game[]

Therian Saga is an asynchronous game, which means the player can go offline but their hero continues to perform the tasks assigned to them. This is limited only by the hero’s energy.

a) Correspondence between working time and energy

The time it takes to finish an action is directly proportional to the energy required to accomplish it. To use one energy corresponds to a time of approximately 4 minutes and 10 seconds, or 250 seconds.

b) Correspondence between sleep time and energy

Likewise, the sleep time is proportional to the energy regained. Fifteen minutes of sleep recuperates ten energy. A full night's sleep, which is 2h30 of real time, corresponds to 100 energy.

Add to this the bonus of comfort that allows the hero to exceed 100 energy. All depends on the comfort of the place where the hero sleeps. For example, in an Inn with 40 comfort, the hero will earn 2 bonus energy points every 15 minutes of sleep or 20 at the end of a full night sleep. In this case, after a full night sleep, the hero will have 120 energy.

c) Setting actions

Enthusiasm: This will appear only once and at the very beginning of the game. This enthusiasm gives the hero a 24 hour boost. At 100% enthusiasm, the hero will be able to accomplish tasks three times faster. As the enthusiasm lowers, this bonus speed will diminish as well. The player will have 24 hours of enthusiasm, either they are online or not.

A hero can have four queued actions plus the present task he is performing; the player can buy Task items in the cash shop to acquire up to four extra task slots, the maximum being 8 queued tasks.

II. Progress and evolution of heroes[]

a) I do not understand how the hero’s score is calculated.

All skills work the same way. Five elements can influence the hero’s skill:

  • Equipment
  • Companion
  • Heroes’ skill
  • Environment
  • Jewelry and potions

Among the first four elements mentioned above, the best score is multiplied by 0.4; the second best by 0.3, 0.2 for the third best and finally the fourth best score is multiplied by 0.1. Then the jewelry and the potions are considered, they have their own score, these are without multiplier.

Here is an example of hunting with only a tool and an example with the same tool in a different environment.

FAQ1FAQ2

The player can only have one potion active at a time and will not be able to use another potion until the effects of that potion are finished. The Chimeric elixir (procured in the cash shop) will reduce any toxicity level to zero. If the toxicity level of a hero is at zero, and they consume a Chimeric elixir, the effect of any active potion will be annulled.

Note: Any potion will be used online and offline if a hero is doing a task. If for example, the player is offline and the hero is doing no tasks, the effect of the potion will pause until the return of the player and an active hero at a task.

b) Why is the hero no longer progressing?

If the hero’s ability score exceeds the difficulty level of a task by five points, the task will no longer improve the hero’s skill. An arrow above the difficulty level indicates the player that the hero can increase its score in the associated skill.

FAQ3

c) The hero does not have the level for the next task, what should the player do?

Possible solutions to this is having the hero equip better tools, jewelry, or by using potions and / or by recruiting a companion knowledgeable in the wanted skill.

The Guide will help with additional information concerning the resources that can help the hero’s progress: where these resources are found and their difficulty level.

Friendly reminder: task groups, such as cutting up for hunting, or sawing for woodcutting, can also improve the hero’s skill.

d) The hero has the level to do a task, but they cannot do it anyway?

For starters, the player must make sure that the hero’s field level is high enough.

Then some tasks require the use of consumables to even or surpass the resistance of working materials (mechanical, tannic, abrasion ...), such as blades or tannins. If the level of the consumable is not strong enough for the materials used (ex: charcoal for iron pickaxe), it will not be possible to perform the task.

FAQ4

Solution: The hero must use better consumables, equip tools with more power or make a workshop within a concession.

e) How or where can the hero buy better tools or better consumables?

Each place related to a skill (Hunting camp, Bérius wood, the Gourins farm ...) usually has tools and consumables related to these.

The majority of tools and of low level consumables can be bought from Cyndril, the tool seller, in the market’s district in Hawkoria.

For higher quality tools and consumable the hero will have to make them or buy them from another player through the Public Market.

f) The hero bought a tool for their skill, but cannot use it.

A tool can be equipped only when the difference between the level of the hero’s skill and the level of the tool is less than or equal to 15.

This also applies to weapons and offensive attributes, armor and defensive attributes.

g) The hero is a prospector and wants to improve the foundry trade, a hunter and wants to improve the taming trade ... What does the hero have to gain from this?

Each field (metal, fauna, wood ...) is divided into 3 different trades (for example: prospection, foundry work and forging for the Metal field).

When the hero gains a level in a skill after performing a task, it gains a level randomly in either the field (ex: metal) and/or the trade (ex: prospection).

For example, a hero who performed various tasks will reach 11 in metal and 9 in prospection. Which gives an average of 10 to perform prospecting tasks (+ tools, companions, workshops ...) It can happen that the trade score ex: prospection is higher than the field score (ex:Metal).

If that same hero decides to start molding, their skill will be at level 1. But the hero’s knowledge of metal will bring their average skill to 6 to perform a task in foundry (1 +11= 12/2=6).

III. About the hero's health and energy.[]

a) How a hero recovers energy and / or health?

To recover health and energy, the hero must rest. They can do so in an Inn or in a camp. Inns provide comfort that will allow the hero’s energy points to exceed 100 once they are totally rested.

It is also possible to recover health and energy drinking healing potions (health) or regeneration potions (energy).

In the Cash shop, the player can purchase items that will help their hero recover energy or health: The Elixir of Phoenix heals all wounds for the hero and their companions and Tonic Biscuit, the hero will get 50 energy points restored. They can be used once a day outside of a dungeon.

b) How do the hero’s companions recover health?

They recover their health by resting, if and only if they accompany the hero when they sleep. There is no healing potion applicable to the companions except with the use of Elixir of phoenix.

c) After losing a fight, the hero is mutilated and has 0 health points. Is it serious? How to fix it?

To lose a battle and end up mutilated causes various inconveniences: Loss of the hero’s energy after the defeat, unable to take part in future combats, doubling the cost in time and energy of tasks ahead, as well as doubling the traveling time.

To remedy this, the hero should rest for at least a 15 minute cycle.

Note that healing potions do not heal the mutilated hero except for the Elixir of phoenix.

IV. About companions[]

a) How to recruit a companion?

Above all, one must first distinguish between humanoid which are recruited through leadership in Inns, and monsters that the hero can tame in the wild.

The hero must perform a number of recruiting or taming tasks for the companion to join the hero; this will be dependent on how present this companion is. If its presence is 100%, 4 recruiting tasks will suffice; if for example, the presence is only at 50%, it will take 8 recruiting tasks.

b) The hero cannot recruit a companion, why?

Three possibilities:

1) The hero does not have the required level of Authority / Control.

2) The hero already has four companions (this can be improved by buying up to 4 extra Companion slots in the cash shop).

3) The hero’s Authority gauge (for the recruitment of a humanoid) / Control (for the taming of an animal) are full.

The hero must either increase their Authority / Control score or abandon one of their companions, or put the companions in a concession (there is no limit on the number of companion a hero can have in their concession).

Some NPCs may buy some tamed companions. Warning: abandoning a companion is final!

FAQ5

c) The companions my hero recruits do not always have the same statistics as those in the guide, is this normal?

This is normal during recruitment or taming, the companion obtained may have a deviation of +3 / -3 in each of its statistics (deviation from the average that is indicated in the guide).

It can often be worth several tries on recruiting the same companion to try to keep one who has higher statistics. But due to the randomness, this may require extensive tries.

d) How does a passive task work?

  • Build a camp or go to a site where the hero can gather resources.

FAQ6

  • Open the tab that the companion will do (ex: Woodcutting )
  • Click on the hero’s companion.
  • A window opens with the actions that the companion can do.
  • The player clicks on the task that the companion will do.

FAQ7

  • The companion is now doing the action at one third the speed of the hero (they sleep and enjoy life the rest of the time).
  • The companion will not give the hero their bonus abilities.
  • The companion is not progressing in their skills.
  • A small icon indicates what action they are performing.
  • A tooltip shows the status of their work.
  • The sign informs of the location of the workplace.
  • If the sign is clicked the map will move to the site of the workplace.

FAQ8

  • If the hero returns to the workplace of their companion, the hero can retrieve the gathered goods.
  • Clicking on the "Finish assignment" button will stop the companion from doing their task.
  • The hero’s companion will now be very happy to follow the hero to fight the Watchmaker.

Limitations

  • The companion cannot have passive task s in dungeons and during an adventure.
  • The companion cannot do a task that requires an object (ex: taming).
  • The companion cannot do a task that requires a recipe (blacksmithing, sewing, etc.).

V. About exploration and quests[]

a) The hero explored several times an area and they still have not found the quest location?

Perhaps it is precisely because the quest in question is not related to a place to be discovered by exploration but a place to be found moving the hero on the map. In this case, the search will inform that the place to find is "offsite". The hero can view as far as the dotted circle around their hero’s image on the land. If the related searched element is within this circle, it will appear in the menu of the camp.

b) How does the hero access the islands west of Hawkoria?

Both locations will be available only after meeting certain conditions relating to skills and after validating certain quests. It is normal not to have access immediately.

c) The hero was to receive an item as a reward for a quest, but the hero cannot find it in their inventory?

For quests or certain actions, when the reward is preceded by a yellow dot (rather than the icon of an object), it is not a material object, but a "step quest" which is not materialized in the inventory.

VI. Regarding the purchase / sale of goods[]

a) How and where can I sell my items?

Each NPC merchant can buy objects of the same kind as those that merchant sells. A tools seller will buy tools; a merchant of weapons will buy weapons and so on. Most of these NPC merchants are in Hawkoria.

There is a NPC merchant who buys almost anything, at Pebble Bridge, south of Craneharbor.

Tip: There is an NPC that buys recipes in Lanfar…

b) My hero has interesting items to sell to other players, how to sell?

It is possible to sell the goods at the market by fixing the quantity and price. Before the player sells, it is still interesting to ask some questions:

Is the object that the hero wants to sell, already sold by an NPC? As they might get it cheaper at that NPC’s shop.

Is the item my hero wants to sell is interesting for other players?

Is it worth it to put up the armors and weapons recovered as spoils of war for sell? A quick overview of the market quickly gives the answer.

The player should try to focus on a single specialization weapon rather than expensive and ineffective versatile weapons.

c) The hero bought an item at the market, but it does not show in their inventory?

To retrieve the objects bought in the market, the hero must go to a market place either in Hawkoria or in Maliken Harbor and look under the “storage” tab.

FAQ9

VII. Combats[]

a) Are there combats in Therian Saga?

Yes, the hero can enter combats in dungeons, for certain quests or when the hero walks or when they are doing activities in hazardous areas.

b) How to know if an area is dangerous?

This is noted when you are planning a trip: Security risk: Safe/ Weak/Medium

Around Hawkoria, all areas are "safe".

c) How many companions are involved during a combat?

The hero and up to four companions can battle up to six monsters!

Only companions with offensive or defensive attributes take part in combat. And only the first ones within the left going towards the right of the companion bar, located in the top middle of the screen.

FAQ10

d) Can a hero die in combat?

No, but the hero can be harmed, injured or even mutilated, but the hero will not die (the same goes for companions).

The hero has 6 lifelines (one per area of the body: head, arms, hands, torso, legs and feet). When struck, one of these lines loses life (often, the body part that is less well protected). When one of these lines of life reaches 0% the hero becomes mutilated, the fight stops and the hero is expelled from the dungeon.

If a hero’s companion is mutilated, it will become excluded from the combat and will not fight at the hero’s side.

The next companion in line (from left to right in the companions bar) will take its place during the next combat.

e) During a combat the player realizes that the hero will be mutilated, it is better to flee?

Sometimes, yes. It is possible to flee except while moving. Fleeing will cost the hero 15 energy points. If the fleeing hero was in a dungeon, the hero will be expelled from the dungeon.

f) Why can the hero carry up to four weapons?

The hero starts with one slot to carry a weapon. The player can buy in the cash shop up to three additional sheaths.

There are currently 3 types of offense and defense: blunt, slashing and piercing.

The hero can optimize their attacks with a good slashing, blunt or piercing offensive weapon. The best score weapon will be taken into account and automatically used during combats, giving the hero the best advantage possible.

This is an example of the game taking the most effective weapon automatically:

If the hero has an offense of: 20 (blunt) - 20 (slashing) - 25 (piercing).

The monster defense is: 15 (blunt) - 10 (slashing) - 30 (piercing).

The hero will use the slashing offense because this offers the best advantage!

In this case, the hero only has 5 more blunt points against 10 more slashing points.

It works the same for monsters so the player must be sure to balance the defenses of the hero carefully, choosing the best armor or companion to defend.

g) Who attacks who?

By default, the first three opponents will target the hero and the next opponents will target the first companion.

If the hero wants to be protected or protect a close companion, simply drag the “protective” character on to the icon of the character to be protected. The "protective" character will receive the damage.

The defensive mode reduces damage by 30%.

To attack a monster, the player must drag the icon of the attacking character onto the character they wish to attack. A quick way is to click in the circles on the left of the monster and click attack, this way all 3 first attacking characters will be in position to attack automatically. The player can always chose to change this before the round starts. To attack intelligently, the player must acquire knowledge of the offense of the attacking character and the defensive scores of the target.

h) Who attacks first?

It is calculated during combat, the biggest difference between attack and defense will go first.

Example:

A rabbit has an offense of 20 against a defense of 10 = 10

The hero an offense of 15 against a defense of 3 = 12

A companion has an offense of 8 against a defense of 10 = -2

The battle begins with the hero’s attack, then the rabbit will attack and finally the companion will make the last attack. If a character is excluded from the fight, ex: “monster dies”, before their attack, that character will not participate in that round of attacks.

i) What are the round icons under the characters in the companion bar when the hero is not in combat?

This is what allows the player to manage automatic battles.

When the player plans a dangerous trip or task, the hero can get attacked. If the player is not in front of the screen, the combat will run automatically according to the positions the player selected: defense, protection or attack.

In this example, the companion is set to attack.

FAQ11

j) Sometimes a character avoids blows. How does that happen?

When the attack is launched, there is a chance it will be avoided. This is calculated from the average of the defenses plus 15% of the land skill.

This is why the companions (who rarely have a good land skill in the battleground) avoid much less blows compared to the monsters that often have a good land skill.

k) How does a hero improve their attack and defense scores?

As with all skills, the hero can improve their attack and their defense by using items: armor, weapons, talisman, and potions.

To improve the hero’s skills, they will have to battle against monsters their level or of higher level.

Note that combats also improve the hero’s land skills, as well as those of their companions.

VIII. Concessions[]

a) Where can I put a concession?

Early in the game the player can buy a concession in Hawkoria.

This is a purchase of a piece of land where the hero can leave his belongings and companions.

In Lanfar, there is no need to buy concessions since this area is not yet settled in (they are free).

Once the hero has moved to the location selected by the player, the player clicks on "manage" to open up the concession.

b) What can the player build? What are the benefits?

Different buildings meet different needs.

To sleep for free: tent / hut.

The tent is smaller and less comfortable. Improve the hero’s sleep with comfort, allowing them to exceed the 100 energy.

The hut offers the possibility to install furniture which will further enhance the comfort and home companions.

To work and improve working conditions: outside workshop or workshop.

Outside workshop allows the player to install one machine that will serve to increase the score of the hero in a skill. You need to install a suitable machine (sewing table, kitchen, fire forge, carpenter's bench ... etc.).

The workshop allows you to install two machines. The player is then free to combine two machines of different skills or install a machine and a mill (which will enhance the power of the workshop and not the entire concession).

To recruit new companions.

If the player wants to recruit companions, they can install a shelter or an Inn. The recipes for these constructions can be purchased in Lanfar.

If the player has their concession in the Hawkoria area, they will have access to companions and specialists from Hawkoria, but the presence of these companions is smaller compared to Lanfar.

If the player has their concession in Lanfar, they will have access to new companions. The player must choose well where to build, as it will affect the availability of companions.

A shelter is smaller and less comfortable; it can be equipped with a well and an ornament. It does not offer the player all the companions.

An Inn is bigger, more comfortable and improves the hero’s leadership skill. It can be equipped with a counter, a piece of furniture and an ornament.

To mine / prospect.

Quarries and mines are used to harvest: gems, minerals, stones and fuel.

The player must choose the right combination for what they want to extract / prospect.

Stone: quarry and extraction rail

Gems and coal: mine and extraction rail

Ore: mine and prospection rail

c) How to build?

Each building takes up space (landscaping encumbrance), therefore the field must be enlarged.

To reach the space required for the installation of a building, it will require a number of actions to expand, depending on the difficulty of the terrain and the type. So to build in a forest 15 or a forest difficulty 35 will not bring the same amount of space.

Then the player will need structures. These depend on what the player wants to build, from a simple tent to an Inn of 20 frames, 20 walls, 5 roofs, 5 foundations... etc.

It is also necessary to place the furniture, machinery, ornaments ... during construction.

These structures must be adapted to the difficulty of the terrain. This corresponds to the difficulty of the area minus 1. Thus, at Gruffgoat (score hill -10), the difficulty is -9 hill.

In more remote areas, the hero needs to beat scores of -34 forests or -14 swamps... and it gets more complicated. It requires that all structures provide an average score that is better than the land difficulty. So if your frame made of cedar resists the marshes moisture, simple pine walls or canvas will suffice.

Landform performance score are shown on the structures the player will build or buy.

d) What is lost when a building is dismantled?

The player will get back all furniture, ornaments, machinery etc.

However, the player will lose 25% of the structures. Ex: for a workshop, this corresponds to a frame, a wall and a foundation.

IX. The chat[]

a) How to whisper to someone?

/w [Character name] [message] Otherwise, the command / help will inform the player all about the use of chat.

b) Sometimes the player whispers someone's name to that person, how to avoid this?

If the player inadvertently clicks on the name of someone in the chat window, and then presses "Enter" to get away; that player will whisper the name to the person. Instead, the player should press the "Esc" key!

X. Mail[]

a) How does the mailing system works?

From the Mail tab in game or shortcut “V”, the player can send a letter to another character.

The mail can only contain text, money or objects with or without cash on delivery (C.O.D).

The hero can send a message or money from anywhere but to send or retrieve an item, the hero must be near a mailbox or use a courier contract (acquired in the cash shop) this will allow the hero to do so remotely.

A player can send an email directly to a friend by clicking the friend’s name and then click on "Mail."

b) Where are the mailboxes?

The mailboxes are found in major cities like Hawkoria and Maliken Harbor.

Players can acquire mailboxes for their home (Mailbox) or guild (Guild’s Mailbox) via the cash shop. One Mailbox can be bought per concession. So if the player wants mailboxes in many of his concessions, they will have to buy many Mailboxes.

c) There is a padlock on the box that prevents the player from sending / retrieving an object why?

The player must be in a place where there is a mailbox.

If this is the case, the player can go to another tab and then come back, this should fix the issue.

d) Can a hero send a letter to another character on the same account?

Yes.

e) What is cash on delivery (C.O.D.)?

If the player wants to send an item that will be paid upon receipt, the player fills out the "C.O.D" section with the desired amount. The money will be charged to the recipient when this one fetches the object and the player will be credited in the requested amount.

XI. The guild[]

A guild will bring a new challenge to players. Some items can only be created in guilds. The heroes can team up together to build domains and structures within them. These constructions are very expensive and time-consuming, but well worth it if the player wants to explore other aspects of the game, live a team experience and use better working tools. a) How to acquire a guild? The player must go to the Imperial district in Hawkoria.

FAQ13

The player buys a Treaty: Hall in Hawkoria.

FAQ14

Now the hero can choose a spot and establish a guild just like a concession, and give the guild a name. FAQ15

b) What is the difference between a guild and a domain? The hero only needs one guild, where guild halls can be built. These buildings are the guild headquarters, where some guild events can take place. The number of people allowed in the guild depends on which hall buildings are present.

The guild can have many domains, which can be built in any regions, one in each territory. The player can have a guild and a domain in the same territory.

The domains act more like workstations, where there will be workplaces, machines, and mines, and the heroes will be able to acquire greater quantities of goods such as stones, wood, etc. So placing the domains is a strategic move: if the player wants stone, it is better to build in the mountains, for wood it would be best in forests, and so on. There can be only one domain per territory. And the domain will have some influence on the world around it.

A site in Whitestone is recommended for the first domain, as it is easy to build in the plains and there are stone merchants nearby. To build domains in high-level terrain will be more arduous as both the land extension and the construction of buildings are harder and more expensive. It is much easier to do this in a 15 forest than in a 35 forest, for example.

c) How to acquire a domain?

Heroes can buy a domain treaty in the same way they bought a guild treaty, but at a much higher cost.

d) The guild has a domain, but players cannot see it.

For guild members to be able to see a domain on the general map, they must locate it: click on the Guilds button, then on the Locate button by the domain’s name under the “Domains” tab, and that domain will appear on the map.

e) Functions within the Guilds option.

Once in a guild, the player can access guild options by pressing the Guilds button on the top right bar.

FAQ16

Players can see at a glance, under the Members tab, the names of all guild members.

FAQ17

Guild members can also add notes beside their heroes’ names by clicking on the avatar image or name.

FAQ18

To add new heroes as members of the guild, the guild leader clicks on the “Add” button on the bottom right of the screen, enters the hero’s name in the box, and clicks on “OK” to send the invitation.

FAQ19

The guild leader can also add a guild message in the top right box by clicking in this area. A pop up box will appear; after entering the message, click on “OK” for the message to show.

FAQ20

The log information can be seen under the log tab, showing what has been added to or removed from guild storage.

f) How does a guild master improve the membership capacity of the guild? A guild starts with a capacity of five heroes. A “General quarters” will increase the capacity to 10 players. And finally, a “Manor” can bring this capacity up to 25 members.

Tip: certain guild events must have been carried out to acquire components that will allow the building of the manor.

XII. Regarding purchases in the cash shop[]

a) How does a player obtain a bought item?

To redeem a bought item, players must log in the hero they wish to give items to and:

A) Click on the “Shop” button in the top middle of the screen,

B) Look for the items they purchased; they will be able to see the amount available in the lower left of the item’s box. In this example we see 100 Inscriptions available.

C) Click on “Redeem” to make a new window appear.

FAQ21

In this new window players can choose the quantity they want their hero to have, and click on OK. The rest, if any are left, will be available to the player at any time they come back to the Shop section in the future. So they can log in with another of their heroes and go through the same process.

FAQ22

OLD FAQ[]

Where do I buy concessions? Military District, Hawkoria.

Is there a limit to the number of companions I can store in my concession? No. The companion capacity of a concession is unlimited.

How do I train/raise my leadership? Recruit companions of sufficient difficulty. If you're having trouble meeting the leadership requirements to make the attempt, Craneharbor has initial leadership training available. You can also equip a vest or a tabard clothing item which contribute leadership points. A good first recruit option is the Page. He has leadership and will make recruiting other companions easier.

Where do I go to learn <Insert trade skill here>? If you hover your mouse of the trade skill's icon in your character sheet skill listing, the game will tell you where you go to learn/train that skill. You need to learn the higher level trade skill before you can learn the individual skills in the trade. At present, Anatomy and Breeding aren't implemented so aren't learnable.

Where can I sell weapons/armor? The Bouron Brothers in the Merchant District of the City of Hawkoria buy and sell weapons and armor.
