Fashioning is one of the primary trade skill in the game used to/for:

  • Sewing Sewing used for crafting clothes and mail armor.
  • Tanning Tanning used for crafting a variety leather armor, scale armor as well as the boots for most armor sets.
  • Jewelry Jewelry used to craft rings and necklaces that give flat boosts to skills, as well as a variety of glassware.

It is obtained in the Artisans Farm for 50 Silver.

Skill synergy[]

Fashioning synergizes with pretty much everything. At higher levels, it's less synergy and more a requirement to have access to every other skill in some manner.

For Sewing and Tanning, some decent early synergy Flora's Horticulture to make threads/fabric a Fauna's and Hunting for leather and needles. Metal for blades is also pretty much required for Hunting. Mail armor is rarely in demand, but a set of brass mail armor is handy when first unlocking Lanfar. Advanced sewing requires combat skills, while advanced tanning requires Alchemy for stronger tannin.

Jewelry wants Stone for grindstones and gem mines. Making grindstones will, of course, require Metal for chisels. Although, basic grindstones can often be purchased from NPC vendors, while low level gems can be earned as loot from killing creatures in Garrun'gol rather than constructing mines. Optimal jewelry crafting will require a variety of mounts, clasps and embellishments from most trades.

Ultimately, Fashioners are dependent on so many skills that it's best to make connections and let other players handle your needs.

As a beginning profession[]

It is not recommended to choose fashioning as the starting profession on your first character. The primary reason for this is that the trade cannot produce any of its own raw materials. However, another reason is that the low level products are also very niche, in the sense that there's little that veteran players will continuously need large quantities of (except glass vials, but glass itself requires both Stone and Metal trades).

For those looking for a "challenge", Fashioning isn't so much challenging as it is unnecessarily difficult. You could start with any other profession and then learn Fashioning after you've got a steady income. Fashioning is no more difficult than anything else if you're already established in the game and aren't scrounging after every silver coin.
